Bridesmaids Have A Long History
We have lots of information and help for you concerning ways to incorporate centuries old traditions into your modern wedding. Please stop in and let us show you how to make the old seem new again for your wedding!
Do you know why you are searching for the perfect bridesmaid dress? Your bridesmaids are part of the history of weddings. They are an integral part of the day and you want them to look their best. Certainly a group of lovely young women in beautiful gowns is occassion enough for celebrating, but their roles do have a long tradition. In the old days of marriage by capture, a maiden was guarded by her family to prevent her seizure. In later centuries, this little "drama" was enacted as a "game" at country weddings. The bridegroom, gaily attired, coming for his bride, was met by a group of maidens all dressed alike. His part of the play was to detect his true love, "forsaking all others", and bear her away to the church.
As recently as Victorian times, brides' attendants ofter wore white dresses and even short bridal veils, looking like brides themselves. The best friend was designated first bridesmaid. The terms, Maid of Honor and Matron of Honor, are modern designations for that first bridesmaid. Our consultants can help you to ground even more of your wedding plans in tradition--- plus help you find ways to express that tradition in new and more contemporary ways.
